Sandra K. Harris

Sandra Harris is an accomplished botanical artist specializing in painting large, realistic portraits of plants, flowers, feathers, shells, vegetables and fruit.  Her work strives to pay homage to the masters of old, while adding a unique touch of contemporary realism and drama to the mix.

Sandra has studied extensively at the New York Botanical Garden with many well-known artists, including Rose Marie James and Kathie Miranda. She also spent several years studying in Greenwich, Connecticut with Hazel Jarvis, a noted British watercolor artist, focusing on the finer points of composition, acute attention to form and the nuances of color mixing.

Sandra was born in Dallas, Texas, where she spent much of her youth with her artist Grandmother, learning to draw and paint subjects from her beautiful garden. Sandra left Texas to attend the University of Maryland, eventually earning an M.A. in Economics, and then went on to a career as a successful portfolio manager and trader. She then married and moved to Greenwich, Connecticut where she resolved to renew her art studies and build a studio of her own.

Sandra received her Certificate in Botanical Art and Illustration from the New York Botanical Garden in June, 2015 after completing a rigorous course of study, including hundreds of hours drawing specimens from life, in depth study of plant morphology, and mastering techniques in watercolor and other media.
